Handling of Raid land certificate

HILLONG: The Sordar of Raid Madan Kyrdem under Khyrim Syiemship, Pholning Makdoh has questioned the interference of CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing in the Raid’s matters with relation to the handling of dulir (land certificate) of the Raid to the locals, when the same could be resolved in-house.

Recently, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing had filed an FIR against the Sordar of Raid Madan Kyrdem, who is also the rangbah shnong of Klew for allowing mass deforestation of the Raid’s land.

Clarifying this, Makdoh on Friday said that the allegations against the Sordar of allowing mass deforestation is untrue and baseless as the said land belongs to an individual and not to the Raid.

He also explained that none of the land in Raid Madan Kyrdem belongs to the Raid now as all the land in the 12 villages of the Raid had already been distributed to the local individuals since 1976 by the former Sordar and as far as Klew village is concerned, the dorbar had in 1984-85 decided to distribute the Raid’s land to the locals.

“Felling of trees in certain parts of the Raid is the look out of the private land owners and so far, there have never been reports where mass trees have been felled by people for their benefits. The people fell the trees according to their needs and not randomly,” Makdoh said.

He was of the view that if Kharshiing had to file an FIR, she should have first informed the Dorbar to inquire into the matter and not directly blame the Sordar for such lapses.

Agreeing that it is the responsibility of the Rangbah Shnong to ensure that everything is in order in his locality, the Klew Rangbah Shnong said, “It is the responsibility of the Rangbah Shnong to solve the in-house problems, and it is also the responsibility of the complainant to apprise the dorbar shnong in this regard so that appropriate actions could be taken against the defaulters.”

Meanwhile, the executive secretary of the Raid, J Ramshon has condemned the interference of the CSWO leader in the matter relating to the Raid, stating that as an outsider, Kharshiing should not be involved in creating misunderstanding among the residents of the Raid by leveling false allegations against them.

When asked whether the Sordar was aware of the Supreme Court’s ruling in relation to mass deforestation, Makdoh said that they were unaware of such rulings and asked the district council to provide a copy of the ruling to each and every traditional heads within the jurisdiction of the KHADC to enable the leaders to have the know-how of the existing laws and order to prevent any trouble or misunderstanding in future.
