Political parties start looking for candidates for LS elections

Imphal: All the Political parties have started preparing for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. All eyes are set on Congress party which commands absolute majority and both the Lok Sabha seats are now occupied by Congress. Congress sources said both the seating MPs, Thangso Baite of Outer Manipur and Dr Th Meinya of Inner Manipur have applied for Congress tickets. Former Youth Congress chief L Tilotama, and other party workers, K Saratchandra, and M Bishwarjit have also applied for the Inner seat. For Outer seat which is reserved for ST, DD Thaisii, Jangamlung Panmei, ZL Sawmi, Langkhanpao Guite, Ngachonmi Ch, Wiloubou New mai and Vungngaihlun have also applied. Congress party has not yet sent any recommendations to the AICC yet. The final decision is always taken by the AICC, Congress leaders said. Congress is expecting a repeat of the last elections by winning both the seats. BJP has also started campaigning. Gangmumei Kamei will be contesting in Outer while RK Ranjan is likely to be projected for the Inner seat. Trinamool Chief Kim Gangte may likely contest in Outer Manipur. CPI will field its Secretary Dr M Nara in Inner Manipur. (UNI)

Nagaland CM takes austerity measures by travelling in train

Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has set an example of sorts to his cabinet colleagues and top state bureaucrats by travelling in a train to Guwahati on Saturday and taking another train on his return journey to Dimapur on Sunday. Official sources on Tuesday said Rio had gone to Guwahati on Saturday to attend the meeting of the Northeast Regional political parties, where he was appointed the Convener of North East Regional Political Forum (NERPF). Sources said Rio and his colleagues, including top NPF leaders, boarded the Jana Satabadi Express to Guwahati on Saturday and returned on Sunday night by Rajdhani Express. (UNI)

13th International Leo Expo to begin in Guwahati on Oct 25

GUWAHATI: The 13th International Leo Expo-2013, conceived and organised by Leo Advertising, will begin from October 25 and last till November 12 at the Maniram Dewan Centre, Guwahati. This was officially announced on Tuesday by popular singer & cultural advisor of Leo Expo Manisha Hazarika during a press conference held at the Guwahati Press Club. Actress Barsha Rani Bishaya is the Leo Expo brand ambassador for this year. Business houses and manufacturers, representing the length and breadth of the country, would attend the expo with a wide range of products. A number of multinational companies including Panasonic, Onida, Kutchina, USHA, Samsung, IFB, Propello, Godrej, Sole Water, Gitanjali Jewels, Mat-X, Gits Food Products, Vinayak Furnishings, LG, HP, Syntex, Sleepwell, Borges Olive Oil etc., among others would participate in the Expo.
