SHILLONG: The North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) has donated Rs. 7, 00,270/- (Rupees Seven Lakhs Two Hundred and Seventy only) to the victims of the Uttarakhand disaster in June this year. The group hand the amount over to Governor KK Paul on Thursday. Professor Xavier P Mao, leading the delegation of teachers, informed the governor of the teachers contributing a day’s salary toward the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Uttarakhand disaster, which the governor lauded as a “noble and befitting” act.

“The NEHUTA believes that the teaching community has a moral responsibility to ensure the well-being of the distressed and the displaced survivors in a national tragedy like Uttarakhand tragedy. The NEHUTA appealed to all its members and other well-wishers of the teaching community to contribute a day’s salary- to which large section of members responded positively,” said a statement issued by the group.
