Forced circumcision case

SHILLONG: The Seng Samla Shnong Shilliang Umkhen (SSSSU) has demanded the immediate termination of the service of Dr Mohd Yunus from NEIGRIHMS.

Dr Yunus had been accused for allegedly carried out forcible circumcision (a customary practice under the Islamic law) on minor boys who were inmates of the Meherbaan Orphanage in Laban in the casualty ward of NEIGRIHMS.

“We are demanding the termination of the service of Dr Yunus after he failed to respond to the show cause notice on the allegation which was leveled against him within the given deadline of October 18. The termination of the service would also be a deterrent to other doctors not to indulge in similar kind activities,” SSSSU publicity secretary A Nongrum said in a statement issued here on Sunday.

He said that the reputation of NEIGRIHMS would be at stake if Dr Yunus is allowed to remain in the institution.

Earlier, the East Khasi Hills District Administration had ordered a magisterial probe headed by ADM DM Wahlang to delve into the details of the reported incident.
