Khliehriat block tournament concludes

SHILLONG: The District Sports Office of West Jaintia Hills District conducted the Inter School Block Level Tournament (Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills) recently.

The tournament conlcuded on Saturday at Teilang playground.

As with similar competitions held in the state, four disciplines were conducted – handball, kho-kho, kabaddi and volleyball for both girls and boys.

Khliehriat HS School bagged four of the eight titles on offer, sweeping the kho-kho and kabaddi events in the boys and girls categories.

The school also finished runners-up in three other events – girls handball and boys and girls volleyball.

Good Shepherd Sec School won three events, with their boys team winning in handball and volleyball.

Dkhiah East Sec School claimed the other two titles – that of girls handball and girls volleyball.

Dkhiah East Sec were bested in a further five finals, coming second in boys handball as well as both kho-kho and kabaddi events.

The tournament ended with a prize distribution ceremony where the District Sports Officer H Shangpliang was the chief guest, with members of the Khliehriat Sports Association and staff of the District Sports Office, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai, also present.
