Governor nod to delimitation

SHILLONG: Governor Dr KK Paul has asked the State government to direct the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) to complete the delimitation exercise at the earliest besides asking the ADCs to constitute delimitation committees.

The Governor has issued these directives after studying the clarification sought by him from the District Council Affairs department on the Delimitation Bill passed by the KHADC.

Informing this here on Monday, official sources said that he (Dr Paul) returned the file pertaining to proposed delimitation of the district council constituencies to the DCA department on Sunday with the necessary directions.

When asked about the fate of the Delimitation Bill passed by the KHADC, sources said that the Council would have to make some minor changes in the KHADC Autonomous District (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 2013 which seeks to delimit the council constituencies.

“The KHADC would have to first constitute the Delimitation Committee as directed by the Governor,” official sources said.

According to official sources, the KHADC would have to convene a special session to pass the delimitation Bill after making the necessary changes.

Earlier, the Governor during his meeting with the District Council Affairs Minister HDR Lyngdoh had sought more clarity on the amended Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of District Council) Rules, 2013.
