Assam prepares to pay homage to Hazarika

Guwahati:  Assam will remember its two illustrious names this month when the state pays homage to musical maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his death anniversary and to litterateur Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami on her birth anniversary. To mark the second death anniversary of Asom Ratna Dr Hazarika on November five, the Assam Government will observe a day-long programme at different places in Guwahati.
The day-long programme will begin with an all-faith prayer meet, followed by a photo exhibition on Dr Hazarika. There will also be a conducted tour for students to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Museum at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra here. In the evening, the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Memorial Lecture andCultural Programme will be held at Rabindra Bhawan in the city. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr Sanjay Mishra, director of Commonwealth Educational Media Centra for Asia, New Delhi.
Jnanpith awardee Dr Goswami’s 72th birth anniversary will be observed on November 14 next, at a programme to be co-hosted by South East Asia Ramayana Research Centre.
An exhibition of manuscripts, awards and other items of the litterateur will be held on the day, followed by a hand-writing competition among the children. An international-level seminar on ‘Mamoni Raisom Goswami: Life and Literature’ has also been organized on the occasion. Dr Goswami’s selected books translated in five books will also be released on the birth anniversary. (UNI)
