TURA: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel deployed on the Indo-Bangla border in South Garo Hills District have seized weapons and communication equipment that was being ferried across from the neighbouring country destined for a Garo militant outfit late Thursday night.

The intercept by troops from the 132 Battalion of the BSF came two days after five policemen were gunned down in an ambush laid by suspected GNLA militants at Kolapara area of Kapasipara, in the same district.

The items seized included a 9 mm carbine machine gun with two magazines and six live ammo, a top of the line Italian made 7.65 Petro Barreta pistol and a Chinese 7.65 mm pistol along with seven live rounds and a wireless set with signal booster.

“We had specific input about possible infiltration from across the border so out troops were extra vigilant and laid a tactical ambush near the international boundary in Angratoli Reserve Forest which falls under Fakirkona border outpost,” informed BSF officials.

The infiltrators were noticed crossing over from Bangladesh at the stroke of midnight by the BSF patrol parties and when challenged began to flee. On being chased the unidentified men dropped two bags and fled across the border.

Some of the other items recovered were four pistol magazines, two high-end Nokia Lumia mobile handsets, three high quality imported sports boots used in jungle terrain and ten numbers of radio set water proof items.
