Despite trailing by a goal at half time, Mawlai came back strongly as they put up a better show than in most of their previous matches in the league. Mawlai had lost all their previous 11 matches in the SPL, but, to their credit, came out fighting in this fixture.
Barister Rymbai gave Pohkseh a first half lead, putting one past the goalkeeper in the 45th minute.
However, Mawlai equalised in the 52nd minute with a goal by F Lalrinkima and earned the decider in the 75th through Bony Lyngdoh.
Despite winning, Mawlai still remain in bottom place with three points.
Third Division Super League
Meanwhile, Assam Regimental Centre thrashed Nongrah 9-0 in a Third Division Super League match at Polo Grounds on Saturday after a hat-trick by Lalmalsawma, who scored in the 33rd, 40th, and 41st minutes.
The other goal scorers were Rakesh Singh (8th), Amarit Singh (35th), Alwyn Nongkhlaw (60th), Francis Zonuntluanga (57th), and Bobby Singh (63rd) while an own goal was conceded in the 43rd minute.
Monday’s Third Division match will be played between Qualapaty and Rynjah at 1pm at Polo Grounds.
