SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh FC breezed to a 5-0 victory over Nangkiew Irat SC in the 43rd match of the Shillong Premier League at Polo Grounds after some dramatic moments that saw Nangkiew’s Roikhih sent off for a double booking.

The defending champions got off to a solid start with Brazilian signing Ennio Silva providing the breakthrough in the 18th minute.

The attacking midfielder’s long-range free kick took a deflection that saw the ball fire past the defence and into the net.

Nine minutes later Mawia headed in a short cross from Bekay Bawar for Wahingdoh’s second goal before Jackichand Singh made it 3-0 with another header in stoppage time.

The second half played out for a good 30 minutes without another goal before Zosangkima sent a powerful right-footer into the top corner of the net in the 75th minute to extend RWFC’s lead.

The assault finally ended in the 87th minute when substitute Tenzing Dhondup’s 60-yard scorcher left the keeper in a helpless position.

Wahingdoh had, on Friday, given up third place in the standings to Langsning FC, but the champions have now retaken that position, but only have a one point advantage over the fourth-placed team.

Nangkiew Irat remain in fifth place with 16 points.

On Monday, undefeated leaders Rangdajied United FC will play against Nangkiew at 2:45 pm at the JN Sports Complex, Polo Grounds.
