Assam CM reviews Cultural Affairs work

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today reviewed the status of different ongoing projects of Cultural Affairs Department here.

Gogoi directed Minister for Cultural Affairs Pranati Phukan and senior officials of the department to start the process immediately for the construction work of the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Memorial at Jalukbari (Guwahati), the Sukapha Samannay Kshetra at Jorhat, the opening up of the North East Tribal Museum at Sonapur and the setting up of Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Centres.

Gogoi also asked the department to start the work for identification of the 100 and above years old structures, public and private, religious and educational institutions for preservation as heritage buildings.

The chief minister directed the department to start the process for setting up of mini cinema halls across the State.

The officials apprised the chief minister that the advertisement would be issued soon for opening 20 mini cinema halls under PPP mode.

Gogoi asked the officials to identify land for setting up Ajan Pir Kshetra in Guwahati.

The meeting decided to organise a Tribal Festival to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the different ethnic communities in a big way. (UNI)
