SHILLONG: Although they played with spirit, Pohkseh were handed a harsh lesson on the pitch when they were beaten by Malki 8-0 in a Shillong Premier League match at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Wednesday.

Samson Nongrum scored four goals, while Ebormi Buam earned a brace as Malki won the match by the largest margin of this season’s SPL.

An error in a press release on Tuesday gave Wednesday’s fixture as Pohkseh versus Mawlai, but instead it was the formidable Malki that Pohkseh had to face.

Malki now have 26 points from 12 matches.

They started at a brisk pace, finding a sixth minute goal through Timmy Ryngkhlem. In the 24th minute, Nongrum scored the first of his four, sending a shot past the Pohkseh goalkeeper.

Malki went into halftime leading 3-0, after Buam scored in the 39th minute.

Just two minutes after the break, Devinroy Nongspung contributed a goal followed by three more from Nongrum – in the 64th, 71st and 72nd minutes.

Buam then found the net again in the 75th minute to make it 8-0, giving Malki their fourth goal in just 11 minutes.

The performance by Man-of-the-Match Nongrum on Wednesday saw his tally in the league jump to nine, according to an unofficial count, tying him with Nnamdi Stephan Harry of Nangkiew Irat at the top of the goal-scoring list.

Nongspung, meanwhile, has eight goals to his credit.

Thursday’s SPL match will see runaway league leaders Rangdajied United take on fourth-placed Langsning at 2:45pm at the JN Stadium.

3rd Div Super League

Meanwhile, in a Third Division Super League match, Assam Regimental Centre continued their good run, beating Mawkhar in a close contest 2-1.

ARC’s goal-scorers were Sailothanga (35th minute) and Johna Kuki (65th).

Alem Khongwir scored for Mawkhar in the 70th minute.

On Thursday, Nongmensong will play Rynjah at 1pm at Polo Grounds.
