Ampareen gets fresh life threat

SHILLONG: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has warned the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) officials against continuing the eviction drives against tribal people even as it issued a fresh life threat on Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.

“The council issues strict warning to the employees of MUDA not to repeat such action in the near future or be ready to face the consequences,” the outfit’s publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in statement issued here on Thursday.

While terming MUDA as ‘Meghalaya Unconstitutional Destroying Authority’, the militant outfit said, “MUDA is not the owner of the Hynñiewtrep land.”

The outfit was reacting to the eviction drive conducted by MUDA at Umsawli recently.

Quoting the Urban Affairs Minister Lyngdoh, who had claimed that she was not afraid of the threat issued by the outfit, as she is serving for the rights of the public, Nongtraw, while referring to the recent job scam and tampering of answer sheets with white ink, said that the people of Meghalaya are all aware of her services.

Lyngdoh said this after receiving a threatening text messages in her cellular phone recently.

Warning her not to be boastful which might prove fatal in future, Nongtraw said even Rajiv Gandhi (former Prime Minister ) used to have a lot of security cover and power, but when time came he was assassinated by Tamil revolutionary organisation LTTE. According to the outfit, the arrest of social activist Agnes Kharshiing is just a mere political ploy of Congress to divert people’s attention from the crimes committed by it.
