SHILLONG: The employees of the Office of the Sericulture Development Officer, Resubelpara have appealed to the kidnappers to release sericulture extension officer Dilip Dutta Medhi immediately.

Medhi was abducted by unidentified miscreants while he was on his way to Assam on Thursday afternoon. He was travelling from district headquarters Resubelpara towards Dudhnoi town in Goalpara district when armed men accosted his vehicle near Chotomatia village on the Assam side of the border at around 4 pm. They forced the driver of the vehicle to enter a secluded forest area from where they took the official from inside the van.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, the staff of the sericulture office and the family members said, “We cordially appeal to the abductors to release Medhi immediately and unconditionally considering his health condition. He is a Diabetes and BP patient who also suffered from a fractured leg as a result of which he is unable to walk normally.”

Security forces have launched search operations in the area and strongly believe the involvement of the Rabha Vipers Army in the kidnapping.
