Row over delimitation of constituencies
JOWAI: Several Dorbar Shnong in West Jaintia Hills District have decided to boycott the upcoming District Council Election in protest against the Delimitation Bill which was approved in the JHADC during the winter season held recently.
Earlier, the Mookaswan Dorbar Shnong had resolved to boycott the upcoming district council election in protest against the Delimitation Bill complaining that the proposed delimitation would split the village into two parts.
Following in the footsteps of the Mookaswan Dorbar, several other villages including Sehlama, Nongmulieh, Moobakhon, Ksehrynshang and Kremlabit have also resolved to boycott the upcoming MDC elections.
All these villages were under the Moobakhon-Khanduli constituency but have now been clubbed with 10-Mynsngat Khanduli constituency.
The decision to boycott the MDC election was taken in a joint meeting held at Ksehrynshang village on Tuesday.
Rangbah Shnong of Ksehrynshang, SS Shylla, and Secretary Shnong, P Myria, informed that according to the draft of the delimitation bill published by the Delimitation Committee Ksehrynshang village was not affected by the proposed delimitation.
“As we were not affected by the proposed delimitation, we did not raise any objection during the public hearing held in Jowai,” they said, adding, “But now, we are surprised to hear that the draft has changed just after the public hearing and the bill has been approved by the JHADC during the recent winter session”.
“We will lodge a complaint with the Governor and if nothing positive comes out then we will have no other option but to seek justice from the High Court,” they added.
