Tourism fest begins with intl flight from Myanmar

Imphal: Manipur tourism festival began here on Thursday with the landing of Golden Myanmar Airlines at Tulihal airport.

The ten-day festival, named as Sangai Festival, is marked with formal inauguration of Tulihal airport as international airport. About 160 passengers including Chief Ministers of Sagaing, Mandalay, arrived amid joyous moments.

Pawan Kumar Ghatowar, DoNER Minister, O Ibobi Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur, U Ye Myint, Chief Minister of Mandalay region and U Thar Aye, Chief Minister of Sagaing region, AK Jagessur, High Commissioner of Mauritius and large numbers of people formally inaugurated the festival at Hapta Kangjeibing.

Delegates from Zhejiang Province, China, Thailand are also participating. The venue of the festival was extremely colourful and day long programmes will be organised. Different events will be organised throughout the state as part of the festival.

The seventh edition of Manipur Polo International will be held at Mapal Kangjeibung-the oldest living Polo ground in the world from November 23 and teams from US, Germany and Thailand, IPA are expected to participate.

Adventure sports will be a special highlight during the Festival and there will be special day reserved for each hill districts of the state at the main venue at Hapta Kangjeibung. (Agencies)
