Meg Tea a hit in Intl Organic Trade Fair

SHILLONG: International buyers, organic retailers and general visitors showed keen interest on the Meg Tea which was on display during the three-day BioFach India International Organic Trade Fair held at Palace Ground, Bengaluru from November 14 to 16.

“The state pavilion witnessed a large number of trade visitors, organic retailers and international buyers among others who showed interest on Meg Tea products viz green, oolong and black orthodox tea,” a senior official of the Horticulture department informed here on Friday adding that the interest shown by several stakeholders is indicative of the huge potential the tea from Meghalaya has both in the domestic and international market.

The Meghalaya stall was also honoured with the special jury award by the organizers of the event.

A senior government official informed that this year the theme was set to focus on organic tea produced in the state even as small quantity of ginger, turmeric powder and cashew nut produced in the state under organic conversion were also displayed.

According to him, a large section of buyers were all eyes for various products from the North Eastern States including Meghalaya. The buyers believed that the region has a large variety of indigenous fruits and other food products that are grown naturally.

This is the second time that the State delegation is taking part in this annual event.

The team was headed by the Horticulture Development Officer, Tea Development Centre, Umsning, Horticulture Development Officer, Ginger Development Station, Umsning along with the ICS Manager of the organic tea project and supporting staff.
