TURA: Several shops were completely gutted in a fire that broke out at Rongsak market on the road to Williamnagar during the early morning hours on Friday. The market, 25 kms from Williamnagar town, is famous for fresh vegetables particularly the seasonal pumpkin and local fish from the nearby Simsang river.

How the fire started is yet to be ascertained but the inferno completely destroyed several tea stalls and departmental stores on the left side of the road leading up to Williamnagar. Fire brigade tankers from Williamnagar were rushed to the market as news of the breakout was received and locals used buckets, hosepipes and drums to throw water to try and contain the flame from spreading further.
