Jaintia Hills autocross event concludes

SHILLONG: The second edition of the Sutnga Autocross Championship concluded successfully on November 23 at the Off Road Track at Sutnga, East Jaintia Hills.

The two-day extreme sport event saw the participation of 50 drivers from Meghalaya, the North East as well as from further afield.

In the below-1000cc, the top three positions were swept by drivers from Meghalaya.

First place was awarded to Lyngkit Sutnga, second to Edwin Sutnga and third place went to Naylin Chawhin.

In the above-1000cc category, first and second spot went to veteran national circuit drivers, Lakpa Tsering from Arunachal Pradesh and Limar Jamir from Nagaland.

Third place went to Mrinmoy Singha from Assam.

The lone female racer – Balari Wann from Shillong – was awarded a special prize.

Total prize money for the event was Rs 2 lakh.

Vehicles in the competition comprised 4×4 modified Gypsies and other stock cars. In all the categories, the cars turned out to be faster than the Gypsies.

The event witnessed stiff competition among the drivers, who were sometimes separated by mere fractions of a second.

Chiborlang Wahlang, president of Sutnga Sports Social and Cultural Club as well as a prominent rally driver from the state, pledged that the club will continue to hold this event annually and he thanked sponsors and local people for supporting the competition
