Police Bazar to come under CCTV

SHILLONG: Police Bazar, one of the busiest areas of the city, will be under the surveillance with the installation of a few Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, though on a trial basis, on Monday.

Informing this here on Monday, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said that the CCTV cameras were installed on a trial basis. The North East Center Technology and Research demonstrated the CCTV cameras to the state police.

It may be mentioned that the CCTV cameras have been installed under the Safe Secure Shillong Project.

The police chief, however, made it clear that CCTV cameras were not installed in view of the recent arson cases reported from various parts of the city during pro-ILP agitations.

He said similar cameras would be installed in other parts of the city shortly. Under the Safe Secure Shillong project, the shopkeepers of the city have been directed to install CCTV cameras in their respective establishments.
