SHILLONG: The North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), NCERT, brought together over 52 delegates from research institutions across the North eastern region for a six-day training programme on strengthening research capacity in Shillong.

A research training programme has been initiated by NCERT and MHRD with the collaboration of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan – Technical Cooperative Agency (RMSA-TCA) for the faculty members of NERIE, SCERTs and DIETs in the priority area of the North East to build research capacity and to undertake research into various aspects of secondary education.

The first phase of the six-day training programme from November 25 – 30, 2013 is being conducted by NERIE under the aegis of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), a Government of India programme to make good quality secondary education available, accessible and affordable to all young persons in the age group of 14-18 years.

National and international trainers will provide inputs in the areas of educational research including research ethics, research designs and objectives and development of a research proposal. Participants will also get an opportunity to apply their learning by planning and implementing a research project within their regions.

The rest of the three course modules are planned in the coming year.

Prof. Sukumar, Principal, NERIE, during his inaugural address said that the faculty members of SCERT and DIETs of North east are responsible for their State educational reforms and innovations with their findings of educational research studies pertaining to their local needs.

The training programme is being supported by RMSA – Technical Cooperation Agency (TCA), a consortium of national and international technical experts led by Cambridge Education, which aims to improve the status of secondary education in India
