Finance Commission refuses to interact with media

SHILLONG: In a shocking behavior, the members of the Fourteenth Finance Commission on Wednesday refused to speak to the media about their visit to Shillong and instead asked the media to come to New Delhi for a press conference.
The members of the Finance Commission on Wednesday held meetings with different political parties and  Frontier Chamber of Commerce  but when journalists approach the members of the commission, one of the members said, “We will not speak to you, come to Delhi if you want to talk with us. ”
It was interesting statement from the Finance Commission as they address media in New Delhi without any restriction but surprisingly they were not willing to talk to media here.
Though attempts were made by media persons to get views from the commission about their findings, the members of the commission did not paid any heed to the requests and left the Secretariat.
Later, assurances were given from the officers from the Finance Department that a press release would be sent to media persons.
The Commission will finalise its recommendation by October 2014 after completing its discussions with all the State Governments, the Government of India and relevant stake holders.
