SHILLONG: The Greater Iewduh Welfare Organisation has flayed the statement given by some vendors of Iewduh who declared November 30 as a ‘no-market’ day in view of the proposed rally called by the 14 Pro-ILP groups on this day, as appeared in some section of the press.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, president of the Organisation M Victory Marwein said that the statement which was given by one KR Lyngdoh, who claimed that the decision to close down the market on that day was taken unanimously among the members of all the units (basa) in the Iewduh, is false and baseless.

“We have no knowledge on this so called decision taken by a few people and we condemned those involved in disseminating false information to the public,” Marwein said while informing that the market will not be closed down on that day and everything will function as usual.

Earlier, one KR Lyngdoh has stated that the market place will be stalled down on November 30 owing to the proposed rally called by the pro-ILP groups while stating that this is being done for the safety and security purpose of the shopkeepers and the customers of Iewduh.

According to him, in a meeting held on November 27 with all the members of all the units, they have decided to shut down the market on that day at the same time, appealed to the shopkeepers and customers from near and far to abstain from coming to the market to prevent any untoward incident from happening in the market place.
