SHILLONG: After a delay of a few days, the final league match of the Shillong Premier League was held on Thursday, with fourth-placed Langsning playing out a goalless draw against Meghalaya Police (MLP) at the JN Stadium, Polo.
MLP were involved in a national police sports event, which delayed their final match in the SPL.
The result was a mere formality as far as the standings were concerned.
Even a victory against the police would not have moved Langsning any higher in the table; they end fourth with 23 points. MLP have 16 and finish in sixth place, comfortably out of the relegation zone.
MLP built a few opportunities to score, but were unable to convert against a Langsning side that were missing a key player in captain Victor Shadap. MLP’s Salseng Sangma was named Man-of-the-Match.
Langsning finishing the league stage in fourth place means that they will take on defending champions Royal Wahingdoh in the second semifinal on December 5.
The winners will then meet the team that lose the first semi – between leaders Rangdajied United and second place Malki on December 4 – for a place in the final
