3 UALA militants shot dead, 1 captured
TURA: Three militants of the Norrok X Momin-led United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) outfit were shot dead and another was captured alive after Williamnagar police attacked their camp at Chiokgre village on Thursday morning.
The dreaded UALA militant chief Singbirth Marak alias Norrok was also present in the camp which housed fifteen cadres but managed to escape with the rest of the group during the encounter.
One of the militant leaders who masterminded the recent attack on a Rabha village in Goalapara during Diwali celebrations leading to the death of seven villagers, this year, has also been killed in the Chiokgre encounter.
Police commandos crossed over the Simsang river through Sampalgre village and attacked the UALA camp which was located close to the river banks and surrounded by thick vegetation on the other end.
Among the three militants who were killed in the encounter only one has been identified. The deceased was identified through his UALA identity card as Sergent major Rikkam R Marak.
East Garo Hills police chief chief J F K Marak while speaking to The Shillong Times said that Rikkam was part of the UALA group which attacked Gendabari village of Goalpara district on November 4.
Police seized from the camp one pistol of 7.65 calibre with five rounds, a high explosive (HE-36) hand grenade, two Chinese grenades, two lap top computers, diaries, as many as ten empty casings of AK ammunition and ANVC documents which the UALA was believed to be scrutinising for a purpose.
GNLA worker arrested : BSF personnel on Wednesday apprehended an over-ground worker of GNLA identified as Toren Sangma aged (25) from his residence at Tikrikila. A vehicle (ML-07B-3087) was also seized. The apprehended GNLA worker confessed that he was working for the banned outfit and collected Rs 2.2 lakh from Tikrikilla market for the outfit.
Meanwhile, troops of BSF in Kuliang apprehended two Bangladeshi illegal immigrants They are identified as Kabiruddin and Lilamay Das, both hailing from Sylhet, Bangladesh.
