SHILLONG: The Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, along with the Meghalaya Judo Association (MJA), will conduct the Inter School District Level Coaching cum Demonstration Camp and State Level Judo Championship in judo.
The programme will begin in Baghmara and Resubelpara from December 2-17 before travelling to Williamnagar and Ampati (January 7-18), Tura and Mawkyrwat (January 21-February 1), Nongstoin (February 4-15), Nongpoh (February 18-29), Jowai and Khliehriat (March 4-15).
The camps will be conducted free of cost, it was revealed through a press release from Lorenzo Warjri, MJA president and vice-president of the Judo Federation of India.
The State Level Judo Championship will be held in March in Shillong with all the judokas who have been training at the above-mentioned camps.
The MJA invites all students, youngsters and sports lovers from all backgrounds to submit their names for the camps.

Judo is the only Olympic martial art form and is thus being actively promoted by the state and central governments.
Judo originated in Japan and it was founded by Dr Jigoro Kano, a Japanese jujitsu expert in 1882. It was introduced to the Olympics in 1964 for men and 1984 for women.
Meghalaya has some history in the sport, with the state women’s team having qualified for the 33rd National Games in Guwahati in 2007.
The Sub-Junior National Judo Championship 2007 was held in Shillong and Martinez Shangpliang bagged a silver medal for the home team.
Shillong will also host the Junior National Judo Championship next year.
