Megh Athletics Association to organise ‘Run for Democracy’

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer in collaboration with the Meghalaya Athletic Assocation (MAA) will celebrate National Voters Day on January 25in Shillong with an event styled as the “Run for Democracy”.
The race, in three categories, will start from the State Central Library at 6:00am, it was announced through a press release from the MAA’s Finely Pariat.
The categories are: 12-14 years (boys and girls) – 4km – above-15 years (men and women) – 15km – and above-50 years – 7km.
All participants will be give free t-shirts, lunch and there will also be a lucky draw.
Registration can be done at the office of the Shillong Sports Association, Polo Grounds, from 2-4pm Monday to Saturday.

Cash awards will be given to the top four finishers in each category.
In the above-15 and above-50 categories the winners will receive Rs 25,000, with Rs 15,000 going to the runners-up, Rs 10,00 to those third and Rs 5,000 for fourth place.
In the 12-14 category, the winners will receive Rs 15,000, second place Rs 10,000, third place Rs 5,000 and fourth place Rs 3,000.
In a positive move, there will be no discrimination between the sexes, with both men and women to receive equal prize money.

Route for above-50 years: State Central Library – Barik – Malki Point – Dhanketi – Fire Brigade – Beat House – Police Point – New Colony – NEEPCO – Polo Bazaar – Wards Lake – Addl. Sectt. – State Central  Library
