SHILLONG: The Association of Qualified Grade-IV, DSC in East Khasi Hills District has threatened to launch an indefinite hunger strike if the State Government fails to appoint selected candidates against various vacant posts.

In this regard, the association has issued a one-week ultimatum to the State Government.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, AGDSC president Tourist Mylliempdah said, “We would be compelled to resort to indefinite hunger strike if our demand is not fulfilled by the state government.”

According to him, out of the 209 selected job aspirants, 113 are yet to be absorbed.

Earlier, the candidates had staged a hunger strike from November 7 to 10. The State Government had also granted a three-month extension of the merit list valid from October 29 to January 28 next year.

“Extension of the merit list is totally unsatisfactory to the candidates since December and January have less working days and it is difficult for us to push for our appointments,” Mylliempdah said while expressing concern over rampant backdoor appointments in government offices.
