SHILLONG: Defending champions Royal Wahingdoh cruised past Langsning 3-1 in their Shillong Premier League semifinal at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Thursday and have set up a meeting with Malki in a decider for a place in the final, where the winner will face Rangdajied United.
Atsushi Yonezawa scored a brace to earn his third Man-of-the-Match award, while Seityasen Singh contributed one goal.
All the goals were scored in the first half, but Langsning threw away two clear chances to equalise in the second half.
Langsning took the lead in the fifth minute with Reisangpemmi Kasamwoshi putting the ball past Wahingdoh goalkeeper Bishorjit Singh.
Yonezawa equalised in the 28th minute and Seityasen put the Royals into the lead nine minutes later.
Wahingdoh made it 3-1 in the 45th minute when defender Ngouba Singh played a ball for Yonezawa to calmly slot the ball under the advancing keeper Laishram Prem Kumar Singh.
Langsning skipper Victor Shadap had a couple of glorious chances inside the opposition box during the second half but could not convert.
Nevertheless, the defeat cannot be pinned on him alone as his team mates made several errors and gave away the ball too easily to the opposition.
The result means that a resurgent RWFC will take on Malki in the pre-final decider on Monday at 1:45pm at the JN Stadium.
Wahingdoh will go into the match with some momentum, while Malki have to pick themselves up after losing to Rangdajied 4-1 on Wednesday.
