TURA: The body of a new born baby girl abandoned by the mother was retrieved from a cemetery in Williamnagar town on Saturday afternoon.
Police and locals found the body of the new born baby girl from a Hindu graveyard at Balsrigittim locality with its umbilical cord still intact.
By the time help arrived the infant had passed away.
It is strongly suspected that the mother may have abandoned the child after inducing labour and police have begun an investigation to identify the woman.
This is not the first instance of an infant being abandoned by its mother in recent times. Several months ago, another new born was left to die by its mother in a shoe box in the same district town while in Tura another new born infant died after being abandoned by its mother inside a cemetery in Araimile area, last year.
