SHILLONG: The Association of Qualified Grade IV Association-2011, East Khasi Hills has decided to resume its indefinite hunger strike following the alleged apathetical attitude of the government towards its demands.

“Following the failure of the Government to appoint the remaining qualified candidates as per the merit list, we have decided to resume our indefinite hunger strike in the next few days,” the Association’s general secretary, S Pyngrope said in a statement issued here on Thursday.

According to him, out of the 209 selected job aspirants, 113 are yet to be absorbed.

Earlier, the candidates had staged a hunger strike from November 7 to 10. The State Government had also granted a three-month extension of the merit list valid from October 29 to January 28 next year.

“The extension is not enough as December and January have less working days and it is difficult for us to push for the appointments,” Pyngrope said while expressing concern over alleged rampant backdoor appointments in government offices.
