Chasingre, Darichekgre attacks handiwork of ‘commander’ Jarek
TURA: A senior cadre of the GNLA, who was injured in an encounter with police in East Garo Hills district earlier this year, is suspected to be the ‘mastermind’ of the Chasingre and Darichekgre attacks that took place on Wednesday morning.
Police sources claim that the attacks were planned and carried out by GNLA commander identified as Jarek who has been roped in by ‘action command chief’ Kennedy T Sangma alias Hebil to create mayhem in West Garo Hills.
GNLA militants attacked the Tisha Auto Agency petrol station in Chasingre on the outskirts of Tura and opened indiscriminate fire from automatic rifles seriously injuring two attendants. The same group of militants numbering close to a dozen then trekked up to Darichekgre on the foothills of Tura peak and bombed a police radio relay station.
Jarek was part of a group of GNLA militants led by ‘eastern commander’ Ajan Marak alias Jimmy who were hiding in Koksi Nengsat village of Songsak when their camp was attacked by SWAT commandoes on the morning of April 13, this year.
In the ensuing encounter two cadres identified as Nangrepa of Dalu and Imre of Rongsak village were shot dead while Jarek along with Lando, Bikram and Target, sustained bullet injuries.
In that encounter fifty explosive detonators along with an AK-56 rifle and three wireless handsets were recovered.
Injured police commando out of danger
The SWAT commando who was injured at Pattargittim area of Nangalbibra when their team was ambushed by suspected GNLA militants on Wednesday morning is reportedly out of danger after a successful operation in a hospital in Shillong.
The commando was part of a SWAT unit team that was heading for an operation in Nangalbibra when they came under heavy fire from militants.
The two coal trucks in which the SWAT commandos were travelling were sprayed by bullets leading to one of the personnel sustaining a bullet wound on his thigh.
