SHILLONG: On behalf of the people of Meghalaya, the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya has extended their sincere condolences on the demise of former South African President Nelson Mandela.
Madiba’s 95-year journey (July 18, 1918 -Dec 5, 2013) has been an inspiration to us to follow the path of democratic expression. He surely was our planet’s last living legend, the Chairperson of Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya John Kharshiing said.
Madiba’s, life, works and example will be a reminder to us all of the rewards of service towards the deprived and the oppressed, he added.
The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya at the 3rd Dorbar Ri – Peoples Parliament – held at Asanangre, West Garo Hills on November 14 had  conferred the 3rd Peoples Parliament Global Award to Nelson Mandela for his courage, sacrifice and contribution towards Human Rights.
