ergy Corporation Limited (MeECL) never seems to be able to catch a break with the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Phulbari Circle this time putting the sole blame on it for the current water problems being faced by the people of the region.

In its memorandum submitted to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner the FKJGP informed that the people of Phulbari were facing acute water problems as many of the ring wells had dried up adding that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department was rendered helpless as well due to the very weak voltage being supplied to the region by the MeECL which was not enough to operate the pumping machines required to supply water to the people.

“We have come to know that the power being supplied to the region is too weak to even operate the pumping machines. Without the pumping machines the PHE Department also cannot do much to solve the problem of water in Phulbari,” the President and the Additional General Secretary of the FKJGP jointly said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the federation on behalf of the indigenous people of Phulbari has appealed to the concerned Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter and take necessary steps to solve the present water problem at the earliest in the interest of the people of the region.
