NONGSTOIN: 3 years since the incident at Langpih on May 14, 2010, the Government has implemented a scheme from Rwiang to Langpih section under Special Plant Assistance (SPA) worth Rs 15 crore, but till date there is no hope of the work nearing completion even after two years have elapsed.
The bad road condition at Langpih which has turned from bad to worse has hit the villagers hard even as the scheme for implementation of the road project was sanctioned as early as 2010.
The deplorable condition of the road in Langpih has created a lot of problems for the people of the area, especially patients who travel to Nonglang for treatment.
During the rainy season in the past couple of months and the miserable road conditions, vehicles that usually ply from Riwiang to Langpih have not been able to drop their passengers to Langpih and the villagers of Langpih have to walk 13-14km to reach their destination, and with the winter setting in, the people of Langpih have to face dust.
The sorry state of the roads has made it impossible for villagers to ply.
The road construction from Riwiang to Langpih covering 27 kms commenced since the firing incident at Langpih on May 13, 2010 with a total estimate of 15 crore under Special Plan Assistance.
The Chief Minister also during that time, announced that within 3 months the work should be processed immediately but surprisingly, three years have passed but the project is yet to be completed.
Swingly Samakha, Sordar of Langpih said that the road from Riwiang to Umwahlang covering 14 kms was completed within time, but work is yet to commence in the stretch from Umwahlang to Langpih which is a length of 13km.
Most of the villagers told that the road construction work was allotted to contractor R Kharshiing but till now he could not complete the work.
The people of Langpih area have urged the Government through the PWD department to speed-up the road construction keeping in mind that the rainy season was over and the contractor could easily complete the work this winter.
