AGARTALA: The CPIM controlled state government has been favoring shelter and help of corporate groups to wrap up its failures in all fronts, alleged former opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath.
A week ago, Tripura was awarded by country’s elite publishing group- India Today for governance. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar received the award at New Delhi. Speaking to reporters at Agartala Press Club, Nath on Thursday said, “The lone CPIM ruled state in the country has been lagging behind in all sectors- agriculture, health, education, infrastructure, price-rise, investment etc.
This is evident from the report published by India Today”. Citing the current edition of India Today magazine, he claimed, “The state bags award in ‘governance’ category among 10 tiny states across country. The award was given for curbing decade-long militancy in the state. In overall sector, the state secures 6th position”. The Congress leader accused CPIM of nourishing militancy for its political reason and beating drum of exaggeration.
“Sarkar does not prefer to heavy security. This does not denote high-quality law and order situation”, Nath added. “Crime against women, chit fund scam, wrong-surgery, supply of spurious drugs, UGT recruitment and toothless Lokayukta etc. are the results of good governance in the state. The credit must go to CPIM government”, reiterated ‘sarcastic’ Nath.
According to Crime in India released by NCRB, altogether 1,559 general crimes against women and 229 rape incidents in the state during the last year. “The state figures 86.95 percent in crime against women last year while the conviction rate stands at 15 percent, lowest in the country. Twenty two women are being raped in a month. Altogether 545 motorcycle theft cases are registered by September this year”, the former opposition leader maintained.
