Kohima: The situation of Zunheboto town is very tense as in the aftermath of the expiry of the three-day limit served on the NSCN (IM) authority to handover the three accused for the December 21 incident in which two female passengers and one male co-passenger were mentally and physically abused, by NSCN IM armed cadres, the Sumi organizations have called for a flush out operation against the NSCN (IM) from Sumi inhabited areas as part of the non -cooperation stand towards the outfit.
According to Sumi Hoho sources the deadline for handing over the culprits to the district administration ended on December 25 and on that day the residence of Sumi Hoho President was surrounded by angry mob on hearing that a ‘fact finding committee’ delegation from NSCN (IM) had come to meet the Sumi Hoho leaders for a ‘compromise.’
It said that the mob, especially the youth armed with sticks and machetes, had prevented the NSCN (IM) delegation from leaving the place until their demands were fulfilled.
It was only after the written assurance that the culprits would be handed over to the district administration before noon December 26 that they were allowed to leave.
On Thursday last a rally was organised in Zunheboto town in anticipation for the fulfillment of the written assurance, however, till evening, neither word nor action were complied by the NSCN (IM) authorities, which prompted the public to take the extreme action and entrusted the Sumi frontal organizations to take steps and measures leading to a flush out operation.
Sources further said that the entire Sumi community has asked 25 members from each Sumi village to reach Zunheboto town today (Dec 28) with available arms to carry out the flush out operation against NSCN (IM) cadres from Zunheboto district as part of its non cooperation move.
Sources said that in view of the development leaders from the Sumi community, with active support from the youth, have planned to evacuate the NSCN (IM) designated camp located at Ghathashi under Pughoboto sub-division of Zunheboto district.
It may be mentioned that four NSCN (IM) cadres waylaid a Zunheboto bound Sumo in the wee hours of December 21 morning near Aghuito town some 12 kilometers from Zunheboto Town and attempted to ‘rape’ and ‘molest’ two female passengers and also inflicted grievous injuries to two other male passengers.
The incident triggered mass resentment among the Sumi community thereby resulting to a massive rally on December 22, where it was resolved that the errant NSCN (IM) cadres be handed over to the district administration within 3 days failing which a call for non cooperation towards the NSCN (IM) would be initiated.
