SHILLONG: The Congress-led MUA Government may face protest in the New Year over its  decision to give extension to the Chief Secretary WMS Pariat for six more months.
Though the Chief Minister announced talks with the pressure groups on the issue of ILP on January 15, the issue of extension of six months given to the Chief Secretary is likely to become an irritant for Government in the New Year.
There are already reactions from the people expressing displeasure over the extension given to Pariat.
Senior Advocate of the Meghalaya  High Court VGK Kynta said that  the Chief Minister should not have extended the service of the Chief Secretary as there are better people to hold the post.
According Kynta,  as far as higher posts are concerned , Government should not resort to extension.
“I am expressing the opinion of the masses that the Chief Secretary should not have been given extension”, Kynta said.
Earlier, the Chief Minister had told a section of the press that he extended the service of the Chief Secretary since he would be able to conduct the district council and Lok Sabha elections successfully.
However, the last Assembly elections was in fact conducted successfully by  Additional Chief Secretary  Barkos Warjri as Pariat had to take  leave since his relative Lambok Mylliem was contesting the polls.
Earlier, the RTI activists Michael Syiem  and CSWO President Agnes Kharshiing criticized the extension given to the Chief Secretary  by saying that the Government has created a precedent.
