NONGSTOIN: On surveying the District Urban Affairs at Nongstoin recently, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) Nongstoin Circle has found out that this particular government office has not done anything in bringing the developmental programmes in the district as till now there is not even a permanent place for the people of Nongstoin to dump the garbage.
Therefore, the KSU West Khasi Hills demanded the State Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to do something for the Nongstoin District Urban Affairs, as all the garbage from Nongstoin was being dumped randomly by the people of Nongstoin everywhere in the area.
Informing the media persons, president of the Union, John Fischer Nongsiang said, “Earlier, it was informed that the government will construct a place for dumping of garbage at Mawkadiang in Nongstoin, but till now nothing has come up,” Nongsiang said.
During the survey, the staff of this office told the Union that different schemes from this office cannot be implemented as there is no Executive Engineer (EE), where as the Assistant Engineer who is present does not have the authority to do the job of the EE and all the work has to be done at Shillong.
Nongsiang said that the tender for any work at Nongstoin is being called from Shillong. “The Urban Affairs at Nongstoin cannot function as all the work has to be done from Shillong.”
He added that the staff also failed to turn up to work regularly except for the peon who is present everyday for looking after the office.
“We have already met the concerned Minister recently to keep a full fledged EE but there is no response from the State Government” Nongsiang said.
So to remind the Government related to the matter, the KSU West Khasi Hills demanded the concerned minister to keep one permanent EE at the office and to also bring developmental schemes for the district.
