Guwahati : In the wake of Delhi Assembly election results, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Assam has been flooded with application for membership. In Guwahati alone the AAP has received about 10,000 applications for membership, according to the AAP coordinator Pranjal Bardoloi.
He informed that former Meghalaya Governor and former DG of the Border Security Force (BSF) Ranjit Sekhar Mooshahary is one of the prominent persons who have applied for membership in the AAP in Assam.
Meanwhile, in view of mounting pressure from various quarters asking it to field its candidates in the next Parliamentary election from the state, the AAP in Assam has decided to hold public consultations in different districts of the state to know the people’s mind about the issue. Bardoloi said, “The party will take a decision whether to contest Lok Sabha polls or not after knowing the people’s mind.”
The first such citizens meet was held in Nagaon on Saturday where a large number of prominent citizens participated.
The next two consultations will be held in Jorhat and Sivasagar on January 12 and 13 respectively.
Meanwhile, the AAP in Assam have constituted district units in eight districts of Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Mangaldoi, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Karimganj, Cachar and Hailakandi.
“The AAP’s basic objective is not to fight election but to work for the people and bring a change in the country’s system. But after the party’s performance in Delhi Assembly election, pressure has been mounted on us to contest Lok Sabha election. It all depends on the people of Assam. If the people want us to contest polls we will do so,” Bardoloi said.
The AAP in Assam has vowed to fight against the divisive policies of both the Congress and the BJP in Assam and strive to strengthen the inter-community bonding in the State so that communal flare ups become the thing of past.
