HC orders re-examination of stamp duty case involving Ramdev
Nainital: Uttarakhand High Court has quashed the order of State Revenue Board on alleged stamp duty evasion by yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved Ltd based in Haridwar. In an order issued on Saturday, Justice B S Verma of the High Court asked the District Magistrate of Haridwar to re-examine the case after hearing the parties involved. The order came on a petition filed by Patanjali Ayurved Ltd stating that in 2008, the company had purchased 57 hectares of land in Mustafabad village in Haridwar district. The due stamp duty was paid on prevailing circle rates, the counsel of the petitioner said. After going through the documents submitted by the firm, the court directed Haridwar DM to hear the case in the light of facts submitted by the company. Haridwar administration had filed over 90 cases of stamp duty evasion and gross violation of land laws by Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust late last year. (PTI)
DMK protests on reservations in super speciality hospital
Chennai: Days after criticising the ruling AIADMK over reservation in appointment of candidates to a multi-super speciality hospital here, DMK on Sunday announced it would stage a protest against the government on January 21. The party’s student wing’s protest here will be led by DMK’s south Chennai secretary and MLA J Anbazhagan, the party said. Claiming that the Tamil Nadu government was not following reservation policy in recruitment of doctors in the multi super-speciality hospital, coming up at the New Secretariat- Assembly building complex constructed by the previous DMK government, party chief M Karunanidhi had threatened to hold a protest if it was not implemented. Soon after coming to power in 2011, ruling AIADMK had decided to convert the New Assembly-Secretariat Complex inside Omandurar Government Estate here into a multi super-speciality hospital and include a medical college there.
