National Voters Day runs in WKH, WJH

SHILLONG: West Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills will both host respective races on January 25 as part of the National Voters Day celebrations it was announced on Wednesday.
Shillong will also hold a race on the same day, as reported earlier.
In Nongstoin, an open 10.5km road race for both sexes will be held for those from 32-Nongstoin, 33-Rambrai Jyrngam and 34-Mawshynrut constituencies.
The race is organised by the District Election Office, West Khasi Hills, together with the Office of the District Sports Officer.
Cash prizes, trophies and special prizes will be awarded to the winners and others.
All entries must be sent in on the prescribed form and be filled in with capital letters indicating the full names of the runners.
Entries should be submitted to the office of the DSO during office hours by January 22.
Meanwhile, the race in Jowai for the West Jaintia Hills District will be organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of the district along with the DSO, H Shangpliang, and is also open to both males and females.
The route of the race is as follows: Jrisalein playground (start) – Mission Compound – Iongpiah – Panaliar – Dulong – Poh Hali – Salaroh – Kiang Nangbah College – Bypass (Lad Nartiang) – Wah Myntdu – Police Point – Iew Musiang – DC’s Office – Mynthong – Jrisalein (finish line).
All interested participants from West Jaintia Hills are invited to participate in the event, which will begin at 8:00am.
Finishing first will earn the winner Rs 15,000, with Rs 10,000 going to the runner-up and Rs 5,000 to the third-placed runner.
There will also be prizes for youngest and oldest participants.
Those interested in taking part can register for the race at the office of the DSO or the DC during office hours.
The last date for registration is January 20.
The event in Shillong is titled “Run for Democracy”.
The race, in three categories, will start from the State Central Library at 6:00am.
The categories are: above 15 years (men and women), above 50 years and the special category for boys and girls for those between 12 and 14 years.
Photocopies of birth certificates are required as proof of age for those wishing to take part in the above 50 years and below 15 years.
All participants will be given free t-shirts, lunch and lucky draw (20 prizes).
