SHILLONG: Besides the extended vacation of the Government employees, justice delivery system has also come to a standstill due to the long winter vacation of the courts.

After the Christmas and New Year, the High Court will open only after January 26 and the lowers courts are yet to sit regularly as many magistrates and advocates are on leave.

An official source admitted that unlike other states, there is a long winter vacation of the courts in Meghalaya.

However, the source added that other states, however, have more summer vacations.

“There is need to have a review of the summer and winter vacations so that the courts can adjust the days of holidays without causing any harm to the people who seek justice”, the source added.

Considering the long winter vacation of the courts, some officials of Meghalaya Law department are also on a long holiday.

Indications are that serious works both in the Government offices and in the courts will begin only from February onwards.
