Jolt for Cong in Garo Hills

SHILLONG: The ruling Congress in the State suffered a jolt on Friday ahead of the Lok Sabbha elections when two of its senior members of the Garo Hills region -former minister Chamberline B Marak and Rakman ch Marak — joined the Purno Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP).

The Marak duo along with their supporters joined NPP in the presence of PA Sangma at Bajengdoba.

In a statement issued here, NPP general secretary Thomas Sangma said the Congress Bhawan was converted into NPP office and NPP flag replaced the Congress flag in the office. Speaking on the occasion, Chamberline Marak expressed concern over deteriorating condition in all respects in Meghalaya in general and Garo Hills in particular and felt the need to bring all like-minded politicians and leaders in the same platform.
