ANVC (B) spills the beans

HILLONG: Unhappy over the continued police action against the ANVC (B), the militant outfit on Friday alleged that its chairman Rimpu Marak had a role retaining Dr Mukul Sangma as the Chief Minister when there was a tussle for power during the last term.

In an open letter addressed to the Chief Minister and released to the media, Ajaju .R. Marak, political secretary of ANVC (B) alleged that though the Chief Minister is denying his closeness with the chairman of ANVC (B), the militant outfit reminded the Chief Minister so as to who met him in Delhi Meghalaya House last term when all his legislators deserted him, leaving Abdus Saleh alone by his side?

“You must recall who met you and rendered support if it was not for our chairman who instructed Mokus (commander-in-chief of ANVC-B) to call up all Garo MLAs to lend support to you for the sake of ‘peace’ in Garo Hills and in the interest of hundreds of youths who would join mainstream if settlement happened under your leadership”, the ANVC (B) said.

According to ANVC (B), the attack on Deborah Marak just before the last Assembly election was ordered by the chairman, which confirmed where it linked to? To add up, ANVC (B) questioned as to how Billykid Sangma lost two terms when his winning was sure and how the kidnapping of NCP MDCs from GHADC was strategically planned.

“We all know your closeness with our chairman, which ought to be made public as signing of draft peace pact by chairman is irrelevant as we are being hunted by the police”, ANVC (B) said.

The ANVC(B) leader further said that hundreds of cadres did so much to push him to power with a hope to bring home what they been craving for ages – a historic peace settlement.

“Should we remind you the late night closed door meetings with our leaders to plan strategies to keep you in power. The very reason how you became the Chief Minister from Deputy Chief Minister, you owe credit to us. Our chairman, who was then known as Torik Jangning who also happens to be your brother in some way threatened to return to the jungle which created hype and instilled fear among your rivals”, the ANVC (B) said.

The militant outfit also alleged that the Chairman signed the pact, “which was incomplete leaving us out of it”.

The ANVC(B) also threatened to go back to jungle and return only to bring down Mukul Sangma -led MUA government. The ANVC(B) said that the Government had made them easy targets even as the outfit refrained from all activities. Stating that the outfit was expecting a rehabilitation for its cadres after the group entered the peace pact but he said that the cadres were being arrested by security forces for “no reason”. Marak also sought clarifications from the chief minister as to who ordered the hunt to arrest the ANVC (B) cadres and other queries.
