Political secy suspected to be among 4 dead

TURA: Accusations and counter-accusations between the rebel outfit ANVC-B and Tura police continue to fly thick and fast with the former now claiming that it never filed any FIR over missing cadres with the administration.

The outfit has also stated that there was a strong possibility that one of the four cadres killed by police at Daren Agal may have been its political secretary Ajaju R Marak.

So far none of the four bodies have been identified and no family member has come forward to claim them.

The chairman of ANVC-B Rimpu N Marak (Bernard) issued a statement on Tuesday claiming that ANVC-B did not send any FIR to police about missing cadres.

“I did not authorize anyone to file an FIR. It seems somebody did it in our name leading to grave misunderstanding,” claimed Rimpu Marak.

West Garo Hills police chief Mukesh Kr Singh has stated that the police have a copy of the FIR given to them by the ANVC-B which prompted them to dispatch two unarmed police officers from Chandmari beat house to verify the missing report of the group from their camp at Edenbari.

Interestingly, while the outfit’s chairman has denied filing an FIR, yet on January 2 one of its own senior leaders known as Doang Shira issued a statement through the outfit’s official mail mentioning about the disappearance of three cadres, including two women members, while returning to the camp after New Year eve shopping.

The outfit’s chairman has denied having any nexus with Meghalaya Chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma, as alleged by his own political secretary.

“It is fabricated, baseless and a desperate attempt to disrupt the peace settlement,” claimed Rimpu Marak.

He blamed his own political secretary Ajaju Marak for the incident at Edenbari camp in which cadres opened fire on two unarmed police officials.

The chairman has also appealed to concerned leaders to organize a reconciliation meeting for peace and sought the government’s assurance on safety and security of his cadres who joined the mainstream.

“I did not sign the agreement to make war but to bring peace,” claimed Rimpu Marak.

Tura police seeks public support : Meanwhile, West Garo Hills police have requested the public to come forward to identify the four bodies of ANVC-B currently kept in Tura civil hospital morgue after the post-mortem.
