NONGSTOIN: Twenty five qualified candidates (Grade IV) of the DSC 2005 from West Khasi Hills, in a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, have threatened to go on indefinite hunger strike from Thursday.

The DSC passed candidates have announced that all 25 of them would sit on an indefinite hunger strike from 12 noon on Thursday outside the main gate of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Nongstoin.

The DSC qualified candidates had met the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary and demanded renewal of their validation that had ended in 2011.

Following the meeting, the validity was renewed upto 2013.

They also met the Deputy Commissioner and asked him to fill up the 26 vacant posts in the district with the 25 qualified candidates.

The candidates had also met the Secretary of the DSC West Khasi Hills, VA Hynniewta, and asked her to look into their plight.

West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S Kharlyngdoh told The Shillong Times that out of the 79 candidates that had qualified in the DSC 2005, 54 have already been engaged.

He also informed that there were 26 vacant grade IV posts in the district and he had tried his best to fill the vacant posts with the 25 candidates by sending a proposal for the same to Shillong.

The proposal was, however, rejected, he informed.
