SHILLONG: The South Garo Hills district, which was created 22 years ago, has seen no augmentation of police force and at present having police strength of a civil sub-division which gives the militants an upper hand.
The incidents of attack on the South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner  Chinmoy P. Gotmare  and another Government official in South Garo Hills on Friday night has given a wake-up  call for the Government  to improve the infrastructure facilities for the police besides increasing its strength.
Gotmare admitted that the police strength in the district is the same for the last 22 years as the district is still having the police force of a civil Sub Division.
He said that a report regarding the need to strengthen the police force in the district will be submitted to the state government soon.
“I have already talked to the SP in this regard and it is a matter of concern that the police force in the district is understaffed,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
The official also said that last year during the meeting with the Home Minister Roshan Warjri, the matter was discussed.
