VDP members allegedly assaulted, threatened

OWAI: The president and secretary of the Village Defense Party (VDP), Mynthning village in West Jaintia Hills, lodged a complaint with the Saipung police alleging that a group of people led by Haimon Manar and Hosta Sahale had attacked members of the VDP and also threatened to kill all the VDP members and village elders including the Rangbah Shnong and village secretary.

The complaint alleged that the group entered the Community Hall of Mynthning village and attacked and assualted Raju Chyrmang, Hamran Chyrmang, Iat Syrti and Son Chyrmang, all VDP members.

“We were holding a meeting inside the Dorbar Hall when the group led by Haimon Manarand Hosta Salahe entered the community hall and attacked us,” VDP president K Lamurong said.

“They also threatened to kill all the VDP members and elders of the village,” he said, adding that the attackers broke chairs, tables, benches and window panes.

According to the complaint, the attackers numbering more ) than 15 had come from Samasi village in five vehicles and attacked the VDP members.

Those named in the complaint include Haimon Manar, Peter Tangliang, Hosta Salahe, Skem Paslein, loi Chyrmang, Dar Salahe, Lam Salahe, Saving Salahe, Iaid Paslein, Long Chyrmang, Sita Paslein (all from Samasi village), Pilot Syad (Mihmyntdu village), Roi Lhuid (Ialong village), Coming (Maitdein) and Kit Chulet (Mynkrem village).

The VDP leaders requested the police and the district administration to arrest and punish all those involved in the attack.
