1 dead in road mishap

NONGSTOIN: One person died on the spot while five others sustained grievous injuries when a Mahindra pickup (ML05E- 8507) capsized and fell into a gorge while attempting to negotiate a steep road at Riangdo in West Khasi Hills District on Tuesday evening.

The vehicle was transporting goods for delivery at the Riangdo Police Outpost.

The driver, Franklin Lyngdoh, said he was unable to control the vehicle when it overturned and headed for the bottom of the gorge.

Asadul Ali (17) died on the spot while Anwar Ali (45) is in a critical stage. Others who were injured include Mitel Rabha (35), Rubul Islam (36), Khushi Islam (16) and Shah Islam (20), all hailing from Goalpara, Assam. The injured are undergoing treatment at Riangdo CHC.
